Sarah Innis Nurse Practitioner Psychotherapist

About Me
Hi, I'm Sarah Innis (she/her).
I'm a Nurse Practitioner Psychotherapist, and I’ve been a mental health care clinician for 15+ years. I've worked with thousands of clients with mental health concerns.

I’ve learned that each of us is really the expert in our own care. We may need some help from time to time, but I believe we all have the knowledge and intuition to lead us back to our own wellness. Working together, my focus is to create and foster a reciprocal, non-judgemental and respectful space for you to work on your goals.
I employ a strength-based, humanist, and cognitive behavioural approach (see my FAQ for more info about these modalities!). By honouring your inherent capability, wisdom and intuitive knowledge we can help you to develop the skills you need to achieve your life, health and relationship goals.
I have experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, PTSD and relational concerns. Happy to help you navigate substance use concerns, whether your goals include harm reduction strategies or abstinence & sobriety support. I have helped many with chronic health conditions, including chronic pain. Caregiver burnout, vicarious trauma and navigating life and career changes are all in my wheelhouse. I also have extensive experience working with LGBTQI clients, including helping transgender clients navigate their journey from gender dysphoria through medical and surgical options.
I’m also welcoming of spirituality in our work, and I think too often mental health and spiritual crises are treated as separate entities, when integration of emotions, intellect and spirit can be so crucial to your experience of wellness.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from X University (formerly Ryerson) in Toronto, a Master of Arts in Nursing from NYU, and a Master of Arts in Gender, Feminist and Women’s Studies from York U. I've completed trainings in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Internal Family Systems.

I started my career over 20 years ago working in New York City, and then returned to Toronto where I dedicated my professional work to clients marginalized by poverty, homelessness, mental health and substance use issues. I love learning about the resourcefulness of my clients, and am constantly amazed and grateful to be part of their healing journeys.
I acknowledge that I live on unceded land that is traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, and that this land is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

Among my passions are tarot, biking, vegan cooking, knitting, sewing, and watching horror films.
I’m Gen X with its inherent reverence for 90s fashion, riot grrrl politics and nostalgia, and DIY everything.
